Some of the Philippines' ethnic groups

In the Philippines there are more than one hundred highland, lowland and coastal ethnic entities, some of these are:


The BADJAO

The Badjao are found in the Sulu archipelago or in the southern part of the Philippines, these indigenous ethnic group are also found in Malaysia as the Philippines and Malaysia have conflict regarding the ownership of the Sabah state. Badjao had found to be migrated to neighboring Malaysia over the course of 50 years. known as second largest ethnic group in Malaysia, they also migrated to other country like Indonesia and sometimes referred to as the sea gypsies.


IGOROT

The Igorot is the name of the people of the cordillera region in the highland of Luzon, also known as (Bontoc, Ibaloi, Ifugao, Isneg, Kalinga, KAnkanaey, Kalanguya) the Igorot are form in two subgroups: the larger lives in the south, central and western areas and is very skillful at rice-terrace farming. the smallest groups, however, lives in the east and north, they were also erstwhile practiced headhunting.



ILONGOT

in Caraballo Mountain there's an ethnic group called Ilongot, this tribe are inhabited in the south of Sierra Madre and Caraballo Mountains on the side of Luzon mainly in the provinces of Nueva Viscaya and Nueva Ecija. with the some of 2,500 Ilongot who established their shelters nears to the river as it provide food security and a means of transportation.



LUMAD

Lumad are primarily inhabit in the eastern Mindanao such as Caraga and in Davao region. the Lumad of Mindanao includes several tribes like Monobo, the Tasaday, The Mamanwa, The Mandaya and the Calagan.

MANGYAN

Mangyan are primarily in Mindoro. it was the generic name for the eight indigenous groups found in the Province, aech with its own language and costumes that around 100,000 total of in approximate population because of being reclusive to the people outside their groups.
the Iraya, Alangan Tadyawan, Tawbuid (called batangan by low landers on the west mindoro), Buhid, Hanunoo, are the ethnic groups from north to south, plus the ratagnon in the south coast.
they were known as good agriculturalists, planting variety of Potato, rice, taro and other crops. they also trap Small animals and wild pig.
10 percent of their population are already embraced Christianity both Roman Catholicism and Evangelical Protestantism.

NEGRITO

the Aeta, these are the people or indigenous people who live in scattered, isolated mountains part of Luzon. they called negritos or aeta because of their dark or very dark skinned have a features such as small stature, small frame, curly ti kinky hair with a higher frequency to naturally lighter hair color, small nose and dark brown eyes. they are thought to be earliest inhabitants in the Philippines.
