T'Boli's Lifestyle

The T'boli are one of the indigenous peoples of Southern Mindanao. From the body of
ethnographic and linguistic literature on Mindanao they are variously known as Tboli, T'boli, Tböli, Tiboli, Tibole, Tagabili, Tagabeli, and Tagabulu. They term themselves Tboli or T'boli. Their whereabouts and identity is to some extend confused in the literature; some publications present the Tboli and the Tagabili as distinct peoples; some locate the Tbolis to the vicinity of the Lake Buluan in the Cotabato Basin or in Agusan del Norte. The Tbolis, then, reside on the mountain slopes on either side of the upper Alah Valley and the coastal area of Maitum, Maasim and Kiamba. In former times, the Tbolis also inhabited the upper Alah Valley floor.

Although Mindanao has lots of ethnic tribes, Lake Sebu is the heartland of the Tiboli Tribes,
one of the last remaining, existing, well-preserved tribes
of the Philippines.

Oftentimes, people generally think that the Tiboli tribes are Muslims. The Tiboli tribes claim they are not Muslims, although they do admit that they are slightly influenced by the Muslim culture by their geographic proximity to the area.

The Artist was lamenting the plight of women in this tribe.Women are not allowed to flirt or they will be killed. So when they like someone, they can only express themselves in their music, and with their body movement. This is the only accepted form of flirtation. However, the men can have 5-6 wives, depending on his income. His wives can all stay in one house together. If a wife wants to be independent, she may move to a different house.

Visitors gre
eted with a cultural show, music and dance.
Most of the songs and dances were inspired by nature that surrounds them. The artists mimic the sounds and movements of nature and the animal world .

These Tiboli cultural group have been invited by many foreign embassies to present their
cultural show in their respective countries.

New Year, new Way of Voting

New Year, New Way of Voting

We are 16 weeks away before the national elections. Others mark their calendars day-by-day in preparation for new level of elections. Smartmatic recently won the bidding as a supplier of the automated election machines that will be used in the electoral processes.

Despite of delays in voter’s education, Commission on Elections (ComElec) still pursuing the automation. May 10 is fast approaching; the Comelec is not beating the deadlines onb educating all the registered voters about the newly introduced voting machines. The commission is currently distributing the machines to 80,136 designated voting precincts in the whole country. We are already in January, the elections is on May, there are so many questions gambling in our mind as one of the voters.

Do we have enough time to be well-trained in using these voting machines? Do Smartmatic could supply the needed 80,000+ voting machines? Is it easy to use even by the illiterate? Is it prone to cheating? Do technicians have the knowledge in coming up in all possible situations?

Since last year, the commission is distributing officials that would educate us about the automated elections.

The voting machine is called Precinct Count Optical Scan (PCOS). It will be placed on the top of the ballot boxes. It appears like a fax machine and shaped like a typewriter when covered. It applies simple mechanics but then people have different intellectual knowledge. It is possible that some of us will have a hard time catching it up.

To vote, one still has to fill out the ballot. The ballot is designed according to specific precinct. The name of the candidates is listed on the ballot. It is printed on paper with machine readable signature. The machine will never accept any other paper. Beside the name of the candidates from the presidentiables to local officials have a circle that will be shaded by the voters of their choice. The voters will shade depending in the needed slots for particular contest.

If the voter did not shade it properly or he just put a cross inside the circle, the machine will not count the vote of the candidate. If the voter leaves a blank in any position, it would be counted by the machine. If the voter over vote in a particular position, example he voted two for the mayor or he elected 14 in the senators, the PCOS will not count the excess.

After filling out the ballots, the voter has to feed it into the PCOS. At the right side of the machine, there is an indicator that will show if the ballot if accepted or rejected. If it is rejected, the voter has to repeat the process of feeding the ballot to the machine. The number counter increases one every time the machine accepts the ballot. The accepted ballot goes into the box below the machine.

Technology is applied in this automation but yet we hope that there should be no possible way of cheating.

" Pussycat Dolls Fashion Week "

Robin Antin's Pussycat Dolls lingerie collection closed L.A. Fashion Week yesterday in a flesh-filled spectacle concert–cum–fashion show. Wonder if they're taking cues from Rock & Republic? (Or Ashley Dupré?) The Dolls are hoping to fill the void left by Victoria's Secret, now that the lacy-underthings giant is aiming to de-sexify a bit.

Antin put the Pussycat Dolls together, and considering she succeeded in launching them from cabaret-burlesque act to pop stardom, we don't doubt her ability to rack up an audience the way Victoria's Secret has. She's already got front-row star power: P. Diddy, Dr. Dre, and Nelly attended yesterday.
And sure, we could all use some new skivvies. But the Dolls' latest target audience is the nation's tweens, as evidenced by the CW's latest girl-band-making reality show, Girlicious. Anyone else a little, er, uncomfortable at the idea of young girls rocking some of these thongs? Because we kinda are! Fingers crossed these are marketed to the 18-to-34 group.

The Pussycat Dolls performed in their usual mix of racy leather and cute ruffles. Kudos to lead Doll Nicole for looking somewhat conservative.

The runway was basically at ground level. Note how close the dancers' rears got to the faces of the front row. On the right, a look from the collection. We'll call it "Sailing on Easter Sunday."

P. Diddy sat front row. Perhaps he's scoping out new talent for his latest reality show? Or a new assistant? On the right, bloomers are back!

This is one of the Pussycat Dolls with Nelly. Nelly has one helluva poker face. At right, Dr. Dre. You'd think he'd be enjoying himself a little more.

Ignoring the exhaustion, and the hostile crowd, this event means life for them, Catholic community who believes that the Black Nazarene is doing miraculous things that keeps their faith.

Though the scenes every year seemed fatal, these devotees kept their devotion, walking barefooted, and imitating Christ as a gesture of keeping their lives on path.

Though some weren't able to survive crowd (as shown in the right picture) ended up battling for life and even ended up dead, but for the "pure-blooded" devotees, it's better to die in action than dying useless.
